Claude Motion explained: plans, MP4 export and limits

Claude Motion is a beta artifact template in Claude that turns a prompt into a short animation written as code, not generated by a video model. As of 2026-10-16 it is available only on Team and Enterprise plans, exports as MP4, counts toward normal usage limits, and cannot produce realistic footage or AI-generated people.

AI-assisted writing: this guide was drafted with Claude Fable 5.1, and each fact is linked to its sources.

What is Claude Motion?

Claude Motion is a beta feature of Claude that Anthropic announced with Claude Dashboards in an article dated October 8, 2026 (Claude blog). An animation is an artifact made from the Motion template (Claude Help Center).

Claude builds it from your prompt as code that animates the text, charts, shapes and images you provide, and it plays like a short video (Claude Help Center). The official @claudeai thread says no video model is involved, so you can change any word, number or timing, then export an MP4 (@claudeai on X).

Because each animation is code, you can change one detail, such as a word, a number or the timing, and the rest stays as it was (Claude Help Center). The archive entry Claude Motion one-shot a 30-second real estate explainer shows a one-line follow-up edit that changes the median price and switches the scene to night.

Which Claude plans have Claude Motion?

As of 2026-10-16, Claude Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise plans only (Claude Help Center). The artifacts help article lists the Motion template only for those two plans, while the Dashboards template is in beta on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise (What are artifacts).

On Team plans Motion is on by default. On Enterprise plans it is off until an owner turns it on in Organization settings > Artifacts, and owners can limit it to specific groups with custom roles (Claude Help Center).

Artifacts, and so Motion, also require Cloud code execution and file creation to be on under Organization settings > Capabilities (What are artifacts).

How do you make an animation with Claude Motion?

  1. Start in one of three places: ask in any chat, select Output in the message box and choose Motion, or pick the Motion template in the Artifacts tab (Claude Help Center).
  2. Describe what the animation should show; the help article suggests naming the audience, the venue and roughly how long it should be. Claude builds it as code that animates the text, charts, shapes and images (Claude Help Center).
  3. Edit by asking Claude in the chat (for example, "Slow down the second scene") or adjust the animation yourself in the editor (Claude Help Center).
  4. Find it later in the Artifacts tab, where every animation is saved (Claude Help Center).

How does MP4 export work in Claude Motion?

  1. Click Export.
  2. Choose MP4 (Claude Help Center).

MP4 is the only format the help articles name; the artifacts article's export list says animations export as MP4 video (What are artifacts). As of 2026-10-16, the Motion help article does not state export resolution, frame rate, aspect ratio, file size or audio behaviour, and gives no fixed length beyond a 30-second example (Claude Help Center).

The launch article says you can open an animation in Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI or Runway, with Canva and Captions coming soon (Claude blog). Luma's own announcement, a partner source, says a Claude Motion animation appears in Luma as a video and can be reframed to 9:16, 1:1, 4:3 or 21:9 (Luma news).

What can Claude Motion not do?

Claude Motion does not use a video generation model, so it does not create realistic footage or people (Claude Help Center). The launch article says the same, no generated footage and no AI-generated people, and positions Motion for explaining your own work (Claude blog).

Motion has no separate allowance: artifacts count toward each user's existing limits, shared with the rest of Claude, including Claude Code (Artifacts admin guide). Longer or more complex animations use more of the limit than a typical message (Claude Help Center), and usage-based Enterprise plans bill at standard API rates (Artifacts admin guide).

  • HIPAA-ready configurations: owners can turn Motion on, but it is not covered by the BAA, so keep PHI out (Artifacts admin guide).
  • Artifacts, including Motion, are not available through third-party cloud platforms (Artifacts admin guide).
  • Turning the template off does not affect animations already made (Artifacts admin guide).

How does sharing a Claude Motion animation work?

Animations start private; open one and click Share (Claude Help Center). Sharing outside your organization, or with anyone who has the link, works only if your admin allows it (Claude blog).

On Team and Enterprise, "Anyone with the link" is available only when an Owner has turned on External sharing or allowed that artifact individually (Share artifacts). Everyone needs a Claude account; people without one cannot open a shared artifact, even with the link (Share artifacts).

What does Claude Motion look like in the motif archive?

The motif catalog holds 3,599 entries dated 2025-04-06 to 2026-10-15. Only 10 entry titles contain "Claude Motion" with that capitalisation, 8 of them dated on or after launch day, 2026-10-08; of those 10, 9 have no model specified and 1 lists Opus 5.5. Earlier entries that use the phrase, such as a 2026-09-25 "Claude motion designer showreel" with 17,162 likes, are Opus 5.5 motion graphics made before the product existed.

Is Claude Motion available on the Pro or Max plan?

No. As of 2026-10-16 the Motion template is in beta on Team and Enterprise only, and Anthropic has published no Pro or Max timeline (What are artifacts).

Does Claude Motion use a video generation model?

No. Each animation is code that moves text, charts, shapes and images, so it does not create realistic footage or people (Claude Help Center).

What file format does Claude Motion export?

MP4. Click Export and choose MP4; it is the only format the help articles name (Claude Help Center).

Does Claude Motion have its own usage allowance?

No. Artifacts draw from each user's existing Claude limits, shared with Claude Code (Artifacts admin guide), and longer or more complex animations use more (Claude Help Center).

Can someone without a Claude account watch a shared animation?

No. Everyone needs a Claude account to open a shared artifact, even with the link (Share artifacts).

Is Claude Motion the same as earlier "Claude motion" videos?

No. Posts such as the 2026-09-25 Opus 5.5 showreels in the motif archive came before the 2026-10-08 launch, so they could not use the Motion template. Claude Motion is the artifact template in beta on Team and Enterprise (Claude Help Center).
