Claude Design moves into Artifacts: HTML and MP4 exports

The standalone Claude Design site at claude.ai/design closes on December 14, 2026, and new designs, design systems and slide decks are created as artifacts in Claude. In Artifacts, the Design template exports standalone HTML, .zip, PDF or PowerPoint, and Claude Motion animations export as MP4. Project migration details are coming soon; each project can be downloaded as a .zip.

What is happening to standalone Claude Design?

The standalone Claude Design site (claude.ai/design) closes on December 14, 2026, and you can still use it until that date. After that, claude.ai/design takes you to Claude, per the Help Center migration guide.

When you start a new design, design system or slide deck in Claude, it is created as an artifact. Claude Design is available on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, according to the same migration guide.

Anthropic's stated reason comes from its October 8, 2026 announcement, not the Help Center: running two versions slows down fixes for both, so the standalone site is being folded into Claude.

What happens to existing projects, links and chats?

  • Existing projects stay in the standalone version and keep working until it closes. The Artifacts page in Claude lists up to 60 of them, and they open in the standalone version (migration guide).
  • The Help Center says you don't need to do anything with your projects yet, and that more details about moving them to Claude are coming soon (migration guide).
  • After the closure, the originals are deleted, per Anthropic's data retention practices (migration guide).
  • Public links to projects in the standalone version stop working after it closes (migration guide).
  • Chats with Claude and comments on projects and design systems are not carried over. They are deleted after the closure, in December 2026, so save anything you need from them first (migration guide).

How do you export a standalone Claude Design project?

Projects cannot be downloaded all at once. You download them one at a time, per the migration guide.

  1. Open the project in the standalone version, click Share, then choose Project HTML. For a slide deck, it is under More formats and apps (migration guide).
  2. Keep Project archive selected and click Export. You get a .zip file with every file in the project (migration guide).
  3. Repeat for each project you want to keep. The download is free and does not count toward your usage limits (migration guide).

What changes for HTML animations?

The Help Center says nothing about how HTML animations or interactive prototypes from standalone projects will behave once projects move. What it documents is that projects stay in the standalone version until closure and are then deleted, and that you can download each one as a Project archive .zip (migration guide).

In Artifacts, designs export as a .zip, PDF, PowerPoint or standalone HTML, or go straight to another tool, and animations export as MP4 video (Artifacts guide). The Claude Design guide lists "Export as standalone HTML" and sending designs to tools including Hyperframes, Canva and Lovable.

In Claude Code, /design creates, edits and syncs designs, on desktop or in the terminal (Claude Design guide). Archive examples made in Claude Design include Annotated case study regroups a wall of agent cards, credited to Opus 5.5 and Claude Design, and Managed to get claude design to produce an animation that doesn't look like generic AI output, which links a write-up on how the author exported it to MP4.

How does Claude Motion export compare?

A Claude Motion animation is an artifact made from the Motion template. Claude builds it from your prompt as code that animates the text, charts, shapes and images in it, and it plays like a short video. Claude Motion does not use a video generation model, so it does not create realistic footage or people (Claude Motion guide).

To download an animation, click Export and choose MP4; animations start private to you. Claude Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise plans, on by default on Team and off by default on Enterprise, and longer or more complex animations use more of your limit than a typical message (Claude Motion guide).

The October 8 announcement adds that Motion animations can be opened in Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI or Runway, with Canva and Captions coming soon. Archive examples of the Motion template include the new claude motion artifact + opus 5.5 is truly insane for data viz stuff and Claude Motion one-shot a 30-second real estate explainer, where, by the creator's account, a one-line follow-up prompt changed the median price and made the scene nighttime.

What about design systems, admin settings and limits?

  • One migration brings over every design system in your organization, including other people's, so it only needs to be started once (migration guide).
  • Empty design systems are not migrated, and neither are ones made from a built-in starter theme, even if edited (migration guide).
  • A migrated design system keeps its files as they were, and you cannot edit it yourself on its page yet; its editors are told to ask Claude to make changes (migration guide).
  • Organizations with zero data retention (ZDR) cannot turn on artifacts, so they cannot migrate and should download their projects before the standalone version closes (migration guide).
  • Until the closure, standalone Claude Design has its own setting in Organization settings > Claude Design, separate from the Design template (Artifacts admin guide). Artifacts require Cloud code execution and file creation to be on in Settings > Capabilities on Free, Pro and Max, or Organization settings > Capabilities on Team and Enterprise (Artifacts guide).
  • Claude Design no longer has its own weekly allowance. All Claude Design activity now counts toward your plan's shared limits (Claude Design guide).

What does the motif archive show so far?

In the catalog generated on 2026-10-15, 21 of 3,599 entries mention Claude Design (11 Reddit, 10 X), dated 2026-04-29 to 2026-10-07, with none on or after the October 8 launch. Of those, 14 list no model, 5 credit Opus 5.5, 1 credits Sonnet 5.5 and 1 credits Fable 5.1. Model labels are the creators' own claims.

32 entries contain the phrase "Claude Motion", all on X. The 17 dated before October 8 use it for the earlier "Claude motion design showreel" trend, not the product; 15 are dated on or after the launch. Across the archive, 227 entries mention HTML, 135 mention MP4 and 34 mention both in their title, description or prompt.

When does standalone Claude Design close?

On December 14, 2026. It stays usable until then, and afterwards claude.ai/design takes you to Claude (migration guide).

Will my standalone projects move into Artifacts automatically?

The Help Center does not say yet. As of 2026-10-16 it says projects keep working in the standalone version until it closes, that you don't need to do anything with them yet, and that more details about moving them to Claude are coming soon. You can download each one as a Project archive .zip (migration guide).

Can I still export standalone HTML after the move?

Yes for designs. The Artifacts guide lists standalone HTML among the Design template's export formats, alongside .zip, PDF and PowerPoint (Artifacts guide). HTML export for slide decks is not listed there.

How do I download a Claude Motion animation?

Click Export and choose MP4. That is the only download format the Claude Motion guide documents.

Who can use Claude Motion?

It is in beta on Team and Enterprise plans, on by default on Team and off by default on Enterprise (Claude Motion guide). Claude Design itself is available on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise.

Do public links to my standalone projects keep working?

No. Public links to projects in the standalone version stop working after it closes, and the originals are deleted per Anthropic's data retention practices (migration guide).
