So I’m a software engineer. I know it’s overblown and such a common thing to be like “oh AI is coming for your job”, but I really didn’t take this seriously until the new round of models came out (Astra and Opus 5.5). I’ve been using LLMs to help me code since 2023, and this was the first time I had a legit semi breakdown after seeing how well Opus could make an actual working game engine in one shot. When I’ve tried this in the past it usually gets hung up on writing shaders, but Opus, just… did it flawlessly on the first try. The fact that it can also straight up write assets in code now is just truly astounding. And considering these models are just going to get better, I just… I dunno. After seeing folks make random animated videos with Opus 5.5 I wanted to give it a try. And while it wasn’t one shot, the fact I was able to do this in 2 days just has me questioning my career choice lately. It’s like… I can just see the writing on the wall and every new round of layoffs results…
