Claude Motion is a beta artifact template in Claude that turns a prompt into a short animation written as code, not generated by a video model. As of 2026-10-16 it is available only on Team and Enterprise plans, exports as MP4, counts toward normal usage limits, and cannot produce realistic footage or AI-generated people.

### What is Claude Motion?

Claude Motion is a beta feature of Claude that Anthropic announced with Claude Dashboards in an article dated October 8, 2026 ([Claude blog](https://claude.com/resources/articles/dashboards-and-motion)). An animation is an artifact made from the Motion template ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17454997-get-started-with-claude-motion)).

Claude builds it from your prompt as code that animates the text, charts, shapes and images you provide, and it plays like a short video ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17454997-get-started-with-claude-motion)). The official @claudeai thread says no video model is involved, so you can change any word, number or timing, then export an MP4 ([@claudeai on X](https://x.com/claudeai/status/2108271558170976743)).

Because each animation is code, you can change one detail, such as a word, a number or the timing, and the rest stays as it was ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17454997-get-started-with-claude-motion)). The archive entry [Claude Motion one-shot a 30-second real estate explainer](https://createmotion.io/motions/x-2110685315979448355/) shows a one-line follow-up edit that changes the median price and switches the scene to night.

### Which Claude plans have Claude Motion?

As of 2026-10-16, Claude Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise plans only ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17454997-get-started-with-claude-motion)). The artifacts help article lists the Motion template only for those two plans, while the Dashboards template is in beta on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise ([What are artifacts](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17153992-what-are-artifacts-and-how-do-i-use-them)).

Claude Motion and Claude Dashboards availability by plan, as of 2026-10-16

| Plan | Claude Motion | Claude Dashboards |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Free | Not available | Not available |
| Pro | Not available | Beta |
| Max | Not available | Beta |
| Team | Beta, on by default | Beta |
| Enterprise | Beta, off until an owner turns it on | Beta, off until an owner turns it on |

On Team plans Motion is on by default. On Enterprise plans it is off until an owner turns it on in Organization settings > Artifacts, and owners can limit it to specific groups with custom roles ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17454997-get-started-with-claude-motion)).

Artifacts, and so Motion, also require **Cloud code execution and file creation** (called **Create and edit files** in the updated Settings layout) to be on under Organization settings > Capabilities ([What are artifacts](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17153992-what-are-artifacts-and-how-do-i-use-them)). In the iOS and Android apps you can ask for a design, deck or doc, view it in the Artifacts tab and edit it, but sharing settings need Claude on the web or desktop ([What are artifacts](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17153992-what-are-artifacts-and-how-do-i-use-them)).

Reported, not confirmed: Users on other plans are asking for Motion: one asked for it on Max ([@princedoesai on X](https://x.com/princedoesai/status/2108355595585909095)) and another asked about Pro ([@arslan_568 on X](https://x.com/arslan_568/status/2108529140840472980)); status: demand only; Anthropic has published no Pro or Max timeline. A Team-plan user did not see Motion yet and asked about a staged rollout ([@cdrum on X](https://x.com/cdrum/status/2108391470478811218); status: unconfirmed; no official source mentions one). A Max user reported Claude saying "No Motion type is offered here" ([@jason_dingzc on X](https://x.com/jason_dingzc/status/2108858112111489525); status: reported, consistent with the docs; the author promotes a competing product).

### How do you make an animation with Claude Motion?

1. Start in one of three places: ask in any chat, select **Output** in the message box and choose **Motion**, or pick the Motion template in the Artifacts tab ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17454997-get-started-with-claude-motion)).
2. Describe what the animation should show; the help article suggests naming the audience, the venue and roughly how long it should be. Claude builds it as code that animates the text, charts, shapes and images ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17454997-get-started-with-claude-motion)).
3. Edit by asking Claude in the chat (for example, "Slow down the second scene") or adjust the animation yourself in the editor ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17454997-get-started-with-claude-motion)).
4. Find it later in the Artifacts tab, where every animation is saved ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17454997-get-started-with-claude-motion)).

### How does MP4 export work in Claude Motion?

1. Click **Export**.
2. Choose **MP4** ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17454997-get-started-with-claude-motion)).

MP4 is the only format the help articles name; the artifacts article's export list says animations export as MP4 video ([What are artifacts](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17153992-what-are-artifacts-and-how-do-i-use-them)). As of 2026-10-16, the Motion help article does not state export resolution, frame rate, aspect ratio, file size or audio behaviour, and gives no fixed length beyond a 30-second example ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17454997-get-started-with-claude-motion)).

The launch article says you can open an animation in Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI or Runway, with Canva and Captions coming soon ([Claude blog](https://claude.com/resources/articles/dashboards-and-motion)). Luma's own announcement, a partner source, says a Claude Motion animation appears in Luma as a video and can be reframed to 9:16, 1:1, 4:3 or 21:9 ([Luma news](https://lumalabs.ai/news/Luma-Claude-Motion-Launch-Partnership)).

Reported, not confirmed: A Japanese hands-on says Motion exports MP4 and GIF, adds sound from a built-in synth, cannot import your own audio, and failed with Japanese Google Fonts ([@ryu_f_web on X](https://x.com/ryu_f_web/status/2108504471693385895); status: reported; docs name only MP4 and say nothing about audio). A Turkish hands-on says clips can be dragged to reorder and Claude adds music itself ([@erhanmeydan on X](https://x.com/erhanmeydan/status/2108931418365501716); status: reported; not in the docs). HyperFrames says Send to > HyperFrames opens an animation in HyperFrames Studio ([@HyperFrames_ on X](https://x.com/HyperFrames_/status/2108274305570390403); status: reported; vendor claim, not in Anthropic's handoff list). Higgsfield's prompt sets 1920x1080, 30 fps, 24 seconds ([@higgsfield_ai on X](https://x.com/higgsfield_ai/status/2108373010273227216); status: unconfirmed; prompt settings, not export specs).

### What can Claude Motion not do?

Claude Motion does not use a video generation model, so it does not create realistic footage or people ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17454997-get-started-with-claude-motion)). The launch article says the same, no generated footage and no AI-generated people, and positions Motion for explaining your own work ([Claude blog](https://claude.com/resources/articles/dashboards-and-motion)).

Motion has no separate allowance: artifacts count toward each user's existing limits, shared with the rest of Claude, including Claude Code ([Artifacts admin guide](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/16994751-artifacts-admin-guide-for-team-and-enterprise-plans)). Longer or more complex animations use more of the limit than a typical message ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17454997-get-started-with-claude-motion)), and usage-based Enterprise plans bill at standard API rates ([Artifacts admin guide](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/16994751-artifacts-admin-guide-for-team-and-enterprise-plans)).

- HIPAA-ready configurations: owners can turn Motion on, but it is not covered by the BAA, so keep PHI out ([Artifacts admin guide](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/16994751-artifacts-admin-guide-for-team-and-enterprise-plans)).
- Artifacts, including Motion, are not available through third-party cloud platforms ([Artifacts admin guide](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/16994751-artifacts-admin-guide-for-team-and-enterprise-plans)).
- Turning the template off does not affect animations already made ([Artifacts admin guide](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/16994751-artifacts-admin-guide-for-team-and-enterprise-plans)).

### How does sharing a Claude Motion animation work?

Animations start private; open one and click **Share** ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17454997-get-started-with-claude-motion)). Sharing outside your organization, or with anyone who has the link, works only if your admin allows it ([Claude blog](https://claude.com/resources/articles/dashboards-and-motion)).

On Team and Enterprise, "Anyone with the link" is available only when an Owner has turned on External sharing or allowed that artifact individually ([Share artifacts](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/9547008-share-artifacts)). Everyone needs a Claude account; people without one cannot open a shared artifact, even with the link ([Share artifacts](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/9547008-share-artifacts)).

### What does Claude Motion look like in the motif archive?

The motif catalog holds 3,599 entries dated 2025-04-06 to 2026-10-15. Only 10 entry titles contain "Claude Motion" with that capitalisation, 8 of them dated on or after launch day, 2026-10-08; of those 10, 9 have no model specified and 1 lists Opus 5.5. Earlier entries that use the phrase, such as a 2026-09-25 "Claude motion designer showreel" with 17,162 likes, are Opus 5.5 motion graphics made before the product existed.

- [the new claude motion artifact + opus 5.5 is truly insane for data viz stuff](https://createmotion.io/motions/x-2108932593911816392/): a 100-year film-genre data visualisation credited to the Motion artifact and Opus 5.5.
- [Claude Motion Artifacts are so much fun](https://createmotion.io/motions/x-2110020940666937573/): an event-recap explainer that credits Claude Motion Artifacts.
- [Claude Motion (10/8 beta, Team / Enterprise only) hands-on](https://createmotion.io/motions/x-2108504471693385895/): a Japanese hands-on test naming the beta and plan limit.
- [We gave Claude Motion and Motion the same prompt](https://createmotion.io/motions/x-2108614312684380287/): a side-by-side WWII explainer posted by the competing product Motion (@motion_so); Claude Motion is the right half.

Note: Not every post that says "Claude Motion" uses Anthropic's feature. Some promote open-source versions that run in Claude Code on Pro or Max ([@realsunsiyuan on X](https://x.com/realsunsiyuan/status/2108948429351375259)), and the archive holds earlier posts that use the phrase for motion graphics made before launch. Only post-launch entries that clearly credit the feature are linked above.

Eight post-launch examples, with what each one shows, are in [Claude Motion examples](https://createmotion.io/guides/claude-motion-examples/).

### FAQ

#### Is Claude Motion available on the Pro or Max plan?

No. As of 2026-10-16 the Motion template is in beta on Team and Enterprise only, and Anthropic has published no Pro or Max timeline ([What are artifacts](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17153992-what-are-artifacts-and-how-do-i-use-them)).

#### Does Claude Motion use a video generation model?

No. Each animation is code that moves text, charts, shapes and images, so it does not create realistic footage or people ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17454997-get-started-with-claude-motion)).

#### What file format does Claude Motion export?

MP4. Click Export and choose MP4; it is the only format the help articles name ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17454997-get-started-with-claude-motion)).

#### Does Claude Motion have its own usage allowance?

No. Artifacts draw from each user's existing Claude limits, shared with Claude Code ([Artifacts admin guide](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/16994751-artifacts-admin-guide-for-team-and-enterprise-plans)), and longer or more complex animations use more ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17454997-get-started-with-claude-motion)).

#### Can someone without a Claude account watch a shared animation?

No. Everyone needs a Claude account to open a shared artifact, even with the link ([Share artifacts](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/9547008-share-artifacts)).

#### Is Claude Motion the same as earlier "Claude motion" videos?

No. Posts such as the 2026-09-25 Opus 5.5 showreels in the motif archive came before the 2026-10-08 launch, so they could not use the Motion template. Claude Motion is the artifact template in beta on Team and Enterprise ([Claude Help Center](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17454997-get-started-with-claude-motion)).
